GLASSES OF CHAMPAGNE
December 31
The Netherlands
METER TALL PYRAMID

After building a champagne pyramid for the town hall in Kaatsheuvel in 1992, Luuk went on to set his first world record. With the turn of the millennium, Luuk set a new world record of 30,856 glasses at the Kurhaus in Scheveningen. At the stroke of midnight on December 31, 1999, the record was officially achieved with the placement of the last glass and the pouring of champagne. Television and radio stations from around the world covered the successful world record attempt during the millennium celebration.
Luuk Broos Events’ passion for creating champagne pyramids continued to drive him to new heights, and he went on to set several more world records in the following years, each with a charitable cause. He set his second world record of 39,711 glasses at CentrO in Oberhausen, the largest shopping center in Europe at the time, which raised over €200,000 for the Worldwide Children’s Fund. His fourth world record of 43,680 glasses was set at the Shopping Center Wijnegem in Belgium and raised funds for Marc Herremans’ To Walk Again foundation.
Luuk’s achievements not only set world records but also served as a platform for good causes, demonstrating the power of combining passion with charity.
